2024/25 Champions League: Confirmed teams and pots
A new dawn invites the Champions League.
The Swiss model takes over from the start of the 2024/25 season, with a change in format leading to a move from group stages to a league table.
The sense of freshness will bring more excitement to the competition next season, when UEFA refuses to touch the two-legged affairs that make the knockout stages so good. It’s just the first phase of the Champions League that will be very different.
The usual suspects will once again compete for football’s biggest prize, but a host of up-and-comers will be part of the continent’s elite forces.
Here are all the teams that will enter the Champions League for 2024/25 and the placing of their pots in the order of the league stage.
36 teams will enter the 2024/25 Champions League proper, with only seven teams entering the play-offs.
Most have qualified after their 2023/24 home games, with ten champions across the continent automatically qualifying for the league stage.
Germany and Italy each have five teams in next season’s tournament due to their high coefficients. Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Stuttgart, RB Leipzig again Borussia Dortmund so far they have won in the Bundesliga, season Inter, Milan, Bologna, Juventus again Atalanta they did it in Serie A.
Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool again Aston Villa will represent the Premier League. Paris Saint-Germain they are combined Monaco again Brest from Ligue 1.
Real Madrid, Barcelona again Atletico Madrid familiar faces in La Liga, but they will be alongside the competition starters Girona next season.
PSV, Celtic, Sports CP again Sturm Graz they all won their domestic leagues in 2023/24, while Feyenoord also qualified for the league stage.
The UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland will host the Champions League draw for the first time on 29 August 2024.
This tournament will be played after the completion of the play-offs, where 14 teams will compete to enter the league stage.
The change in format means that teams will not be placed in eight groups of four. Instead, the draw of the league stage will determine which team will play the eight team. Each team will face two opponents in each pot.

Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena will host the 2024/25 Champions League final.
Munich will host the championship event on 31 May 2025. The Allianz last hosted the final in 2012 when Bayern were memorably beaten on penalties by underdogs Chelsea.
