Low scores in Silvis, Ill., for the 2024 John Deere Classic. The leaderboard was full of contenders in the middle of the tournament, but on Saturday, Davis Thompson fired a tight round of 9-under 62 to move to 21 under par and take a two-shot lead over his nearest rivals, Aaron Rai and Eric . Cole.

Five players are within four shots of the lead, but if you look at all the red numbers on the players’ cards, you could make an argument that the players furthest back have a fighting chance on Sunday.

PGA golfer Davis Thompson walks the 9th hole during the third round of the John Deere Classic on July 6, 2024, at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.

Eight of the top 10 players on the leaderboard are looking for their first PGA Tour victory, including the top three players going into the final round: Thompson, Rai and Cole. That means, in addition to the winner’s check, players can look forward to all the benefits that come with winning on the PGA Tour, from job security to coveted exemptions and more.

The winner’s check is, of course, a huge bonus for winning. And in this year’s John Deere Classic, there’s a big payday in play: $1.44 million for an $8 million purse.
