When FedEx Cup leader Scottie Scheffler opened Thursday’s round with a bogey, for a while it looked like the Tour Championship leaderboard would quickly fill up. But that moment didn’t last long.
Scheffler recovered well there, carding five birdies on the back-nine to shoot a six-under 65. It was the best round of the day, and Scheffler already started with a two-shot advantage over the nearest runner.
Going into Friday’s second round, Scheffler’s lead had grown to seven strokes, putting him very close to the record $25 million grand prize.
