In early May, he played Byron Nelson. Tied for 52. Good.
A week later, he played Wells Fargo. 47 were arrested. The better.
A week later, he played the PGA Championship. Arrested 26. It’s better too.
A week later, he played the Charles Schwab Challenge. Arrested for 24. It’s still better.
A week later, he played the Canadian Open. Tied for fourth. It’s really good.
A week later, he played the Memorial. Tied for 43. It was almost expected to backfire.
Then last week, he played the US Open. Arrested 26. And the progression continued.
It doesn’t stop. This week, at the Traveler Championship, things have come to a head for Tom Kim. On Thursday, he shot a one-under 62. Friday, aged 65. On Saturday, another 65-year-old. All told, he held the lead in Sunday’s final round at TPC River Highlands – and he believes his schedule is the reason.
Kim thought he was close. So he chose to ride it. Eight weeks straight.
“For me, I felt like my game was there, but it wasn’t visible in the tournaments,” Kim said Thursday. “I sat down and said, you know, it’s almost the end of the season, and I really want to — I feel like I’m playing well, [but] I can’t, for some reason, I can’t show off in golf tournaments. I think the reason I’m playing more than I usually do is because if you keep entering tournaments, you keep getting better, better, better, and that’s what happens.
“That’s right, I’m glad to see it actually come out.”
On Sunday, starting at 11:15 a.m., he plays in the final group with Akshay Bhatia and Scottie Scheffler, both one shot back. The penalty team will be Xander Schauffele, Sungjae Im and Collin Morikawa, and will go out at 11:04 am.
The spread for Sunday’s final round has been adjusted due to the storms. It will begin at noon on the Golf Channel, and CBS will pick it up from 2 p.m
