3 different ways to get clubhead speed (all from your home!)

Get more clubhead speed by incorporating these unique home exercises into your daily routine.

Most beginner golfers desire as much clubhead speed as possible, treating it as the holy grail when it comes to hitting their shots for more yardage. While swinging a lot it can be be beneficial, like all things in the golf swing, if not done with control, the results can be worse than before.

So instead of just grabbing the driver, biting your bottom lip, and trying to get out of your shoes, you have to understand how to use more clubhead speed to keep everything in line.

This is where practicing the right drills – and thanks to PGA Golf Pro Brendon R. Elliott, you can learn the right fundamentals to put more speed into your swing.

The best part? Instead of packing up and heading to the driving range to smash ball after ball, Elliott says the drill below can all be done from home – so there’s no reason not to try.

Use these simple home exercises for more clubhead speed

“As a seasoned golf instructor with nearly three decades of swing, teaching, and coaching, I’ve learned a thing or two about the game – and one of those things is the importance of clubhead speed,” Elliott said. “Let’s face someone this is not the case I love the feeling of hitting a golf ball with a little more juice behind it, and watching it fly down the fairway?”

So if you’re one of the millions of golfers hunting for more clubhead speed, Elliott suggests the following at-home exercises to try to hit your goals.

1. Towel puncher

Contrary to what you might think, this isn’t a drill when you’re rolling around a bath towel in your bathroom, so hear me out.

Take a small towel, twist it, and hold it like a golf club. In your normal stance, mimic your swing, with the goal of snapping the towel down on your swing. This exercise develops the feeling of increasing speed at the right time, while also helping you find the right wrist hinge feel and release. Also, it provides a satisfying “snap” without calling for drywall repairs when you try to do this with a club in your living room.

2. Resistance band training

Most people associate resistance bands only with physical therapy or recovery, but they can be a great resource if you’re looking for more clubhead speed, too. They’re also really inexpensive, and can be used anywhere from your living room or garage to a hotel room when you’re traveling.

So here’s what you need to do with this drill.

Secure the strap to something sturdy, such as a doorknob or bedpost. Now get into your normal golf stance and pull the band as if you were swinging a golf club. By using this drill, it will improve the strength of the muscles involved in your swing, which, in turn, will increase your swing speed. But the best part? The drill is flexible enough to be done between TV commercials, so there’s no excuse not to try it.

3. Fast stick training
