3 players Rajasthan Royals can release ahead of IPL 2025 auction
Since i Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 the big auction is just around the corner, Rajasthan Royals (RR)the first champions of this prestigious tournament, are preparing to make important decisions.
After putting up a strong performance in IPL 2024, where they displayed incredible competitiveness, teamwork, and resilience, the Royals are determined to retain a core group of players who can take them forward in their quest for another title. However, certain players may be released as part of their shake-up to improve the team’s balance.
3 key possible releases from Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2025 auction
1. Shimron Hetmyer
The 27-year-old West Indian batsman, who made his IPL debut in 2019, has been part of Rajasthan Royals since 2022. Shimron Hetmyer he made a significant contribution in the 2021 and 2022 programs, but his performance in the latest 2024 season was very difficult. Although he was a powerful batsman, he managed to score only 113 runs in 12 matches, his highest score being 27 not out and an average of 22.60. This marked a significant drop from his 2023 season, in which he amassed 300 runs in 14 games.
As RR already boast of a strong middle order, with players like them Sanju Samson, Riyan Paragagain Rovman PowellHetmyer found it a challenge to defend the common ground. His inability to perform consistently in the 2024 program could lead the Royals to consider releasing him before the 2025 auction, freeing up space for a new outfielder or a promising homegrown player.

2. Navdeep Saini
Indian fast bowler Navdeep Saini has been with Rajasthan Royals since 2022 but has struggled to make much of an impact. In the 2024 season, Saini did not appear in a single match, and in the 2023 season, he played only two matches, taking three wickets. His IPL career stats are meager, with just 23 wickets in 32 matches.
Apart from his pace and power, Saini’s lack of opportunities and poor consistency have hampered his growth in the IPL. As Rajasthan Royals already have a strong pace attack led by the likes of Trent Boult again Sandeep Sharmait is becoming difficult for Saini to enter the playing team. Given his limited role over the past two seasons, the franchise may consider releasing him to explore better options in the upcoming auction.
3. Keshav Maharaj
South African left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj joined Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024 but found it difficult to settle in the team. The 34-year-old bowler has played only two IPL matches so far, for RR, where he has taken two wickets. Although Maharaj is an experienced international player, his limited exposure to the IPL format, and his inability to cement his place in the team, makes him a potential release.
Since the RR already has a formidable spin door that includes Yuzvendra Chahal and flexible options such as Ravichandran Ashwin and Parag, Maharaj’s place in the group has been considered. The Royals may choose to release him to make room for another outfielder or young home run hitter to bolster their team for the 2025 season.
