5 scary transfer rumors doing the rounds right now
It’s that time of year again, the time of year when rumor mills churn out funny story, after funny story, after funny story.
From top strikers linked with shock Super Lig transfers to big-money midfielders, we’ve seen plenty of unusual rumors made in the past week.
Here’s our pick of the most outrageous news from the final week of the 2024 summer transfer window.
Rumors
Barcelona’s Pedri has been linked with a shocking move to Paris Saint-Germain El Nacional. The Ligue 1 champions are reportedly willing to pay €70m.
Our take
While 70 million euros would help ease Barca’s financial worries, it falls far short of the 1 billion euro release clause attached to his current contract.
The 21-year-old, despite his injuries, is still considered a key player for Barca’s long-term future. Sports director Deco recently said: “Pedri is an important player for the future, we don’t want to lose him,” so don’t expect him to leave Catalonia soon.
Rumors
In accordance with HITC, Man Utd are ready to sell Mason Mount this summer if they receive the right offer. Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have all shown interest in his services.
Our take
Considering how long Man Utd have been chasing Mount in 2023, it would be a stunning move if they were to sell the midfielder for what would be a loss in 2024.
Sure, he hasn’t done much since leaving Chelsea for Man Utd, but that has been a lot of injury problems. If he can stay fit and play regularly under a manager who believes in him the way Erik ten Hag does, he could still be successful at Old Trafford.
Rumors
I Daily Mail report that West Ham United are looking to make a move for Fikayo Tomori after failing in their bid to sign N’Golo Kante.
Our take
Going out and trying to sign a defender because they failed to sign a player in a different position? That alone is a little bad.
Then add in the fact that West Ham are trying to sign AC Milan’s – one of the biggest clubs in the world – centre-back, and you have the rumours.
We do not support that this agreement takes place.
Rumors
Turkish shop Ajansspor are surprisingly reporting that Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce are preparing a €70 million move to sign Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez.
Our take
Ding. take it, take it.
Congratulations Ajansspor, they have won our ‘worst transfer rumor of the week’ award.
There is absolutely no way that Darwin Nunez, the Liverpool player who signed for €100 million two years ago and has performed well since, will leave for €30 million less than that in 2024.
Nunez will stay at Liverpool and is likely to be a key player for new manager Arne Slot.
Rumors
The guard are one of many outlets reporting that Joao Felix has been targeted as a replacement for Moussa Diaby at Aston Villa.
Our take
File this transfer under ‘yeah, you can imagine what’s going on’.
With their first UEFA Champions League campaign since the end of 1983, Villa have been one of the busiest clubs in the market so far this summer, signing the likes of Amadou Onana, Samuel Iling-Junior and Ian Maatsen. And we fully expect them to continue that business practice as record signing Diaby has left a void in their attacking unit.
Felix has the profile and talent needed to fill that void, and is now widely available thanks to his strained relationship with parent club Atletico Madrid.
