Callaway’s new driver that impresses professionals is now available to the public
Callaway has revealed that their new Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Max driver will be available to the public from June 7th.
Nick Yontz, Callaway’s advanced R&D manager, says PGA TOUR players have found it provides a unique combination of speed and forgiveness.
Experts were given the opportunity to test the company’s prototype last November before receiving the finished product for the Canadian Open.
The Triple Diamond Max sports the same features as the AI Smoke driver line.
“The players will step up and we’ll make it match their driver’s information,” said Yontz. “They were swinging, and we saw some good fly balls – very stable. It is the word ‘stable’ that has been used by players.
“They will continue to divide the field which caused them to start swinging quickly. They had this joy of saying, ‘This thing is offline. I can keep swinging hard and it keeps that straight flight.’
“We have seen players who will gain a little speed in the ball from the driver’s head alone, but the swing speed will increase if they keep changing. At the end of it, they saw a meaningful gain in speed and distance of the ball.”
Wesley Bryan, Kevin Yu and Carl Yuan used Callaway’s Triple Diamond Max head.
The Triple Diamond and Max are the two current models in Callaway’s lineup, and as the name suggests, they’ve been combined to create the new Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Max driver.
With its 450cc displacement, the Triple Diamond head has been a Tour staple for a long time.
It offers players a compact head shape, neutral to fade bias, reduced spin, better performance, and two adjustable swing weights to help fine-tune spin levels.
In contrast, the Max head has a large 460cc profile designed for forgiveness and distance, as well as an adjustable perimeter weight to help adjust the shape of the shot.
Like the Max head, the new Triple Diamond Max head has a displacement of 460cc, but shares a head with the Triple Diamond inspired by Tour drivers. Similar to the Triple Diamond head, the sole has a split weight design.
The Triple Diamond Max head is less forgiving than the standard Triple Diamond for PGA TOUR players, and players find it easier to hit drives with it, according to Callaway Tour representative Johnny Wunder.
