The Red Devils want to sign Ivan Toney
Now that Erik ten Hag has been confirmed as Man United’s first team manager after an internal review, the club can set some of their transfer targets.
An excellent FA Cup final victory against rivals Man City cannot mask what has been a very disappointing campaign for United, so it stands to reason that a few changes will be needed instead of one or two.
Defensively, the Red Devils have been shot to pieces for a long time in the 2023/24 season, so it would not be a surprise if that area of the team takes first place.
Man United want Ivan Toney
However, ending the season with a poor goal difference also clearly proves that the club needs someone other than Rasmus Hojlund or the misleading Marcus Rashford to score goals.
It may be with that in mind that ESPN are reporting that Brentford’s Ivan Toney is on United’s shopping list.
The 28-year-old England international would be a fantastic signing.
Back in November, Sky Sports noted that the Bees wanted £100m for the striker, and when he returned from his suspension in January with four goals in his first five games, that figure didn’t seem too steep in the current market.
However, since then he has failed to find the net, per WhoScored, seeing his rating drop.
Paul Robinson of Football Insider has suggested that Tottenham will be disappointed if they do not land the player, and if they want to stay in London the Lilywhites could have an advantage in any negotiations.
However, if United follow through on their reported interest, it is certain that Toney will be offered the chance to play for one of the most storied clubs in English football history.
