Three-time Grand Slam champion Murray has suggested he will not play at the Paris Olympics next month if he is not selected to play in doubles.
“I need to see what happens in the Olympics,” Murray told reporters in Stuttgart on Tuesday following his 6-3, 6-4 loss to Marcos Giron. “I’m not 100 percent sure what the situation is in doubles right now and whether or not I’ll play when I go into singles. I don’t know.”
The 37-year-old Murray, who lost to fellow three-time major champion Stan Wawrinka in straight sets at Roland Garros last month, said recurring problems contributed to his reluctance to play the Paris Olympics alone.
“My body hasn’t felt good playing clay in the last month or so. I’ve had a few issues with my back, so I don’t know if I’m going to go singles,” Murray said.
