Arsenal are monitoring athletic defender Goncalo Inacio

Arsenal had the best defensive record in the Premier League last season as the Gunners conceded just 29 goals in their 28 games.

William Saliba and Gabriel formed a strong partnership, which helped Mikel Arteta’s side challenge for the Premier League title and take the title race into the final day of the season.

They ended up losing the title to Manchester City but showed their defensive quality throughout the season, becoming one of the best defensive teams in Europe.

A recent report from the Sun suggests they could sign another top-class defender to add to their defensive line.

Arsenal are interested in signing Sporting defender Goncalo Inacio, who has a £52 million release clause from the Portuguese club.

According to the report, the North London team’s scouts are always watching the defender.

Manchester United and Liverpool are also interested in signing him this summer, according to GiveMeSport.

By giving their central back duo of Gabriel and Saliba more depth and protection, Arteta hopes to strengthen his defence.

As a youngster, Inacio made his sporting debut in October 2020.

Goncalo Inacio to Arsenal?

Since then, he has developed into one of the most promising prospects in the Primeira Liga.

Under Roberto Martinez, he has also made a name for himself in the Portugal national team.

As a result, Inacio’s contract contains a £52 million release clause that expires in June 2027, and Sporting are willing to wait for an offer of that amount.

Arsenal are looking to improve their already strong defence

The Gunners are ready to strengthen their defense and attack to beat Man City to the Premier League title next season.

Although Benjamin Sesko has signed a new contract at RB Leipzig, the Gunners are looking for a new striker to lead them next season.

Arteta continues to be backed by the club after showing promising signs in his managerial career at Arsenal.
