Erik ten Hag’s management has been criticized by two of Man Utd’s star players

Raphael Varane and Casemiro have been ‘at odds’ in the Manchester United dressing room over Erik ten Hag’s managerial style, according to a report.

Ten Hag is set to stay at United and sign a new contract despite being tipped to be sacked at the end of the club’s extensive post-season review.

The Dutchman oversaw the Red Devils’ worst campaign in the Premier League era, finishing eighth despite high hopes for the 2023/24 season. However, he led United to their second trophy in two years, overcoming the odds and beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Off the field, Ten Hag also had to deal with problems in his first team. Athletic Several players said they felt their manager treated them with ‘information overload’ and that his ‘minimum management’ had a negative impact on individual performance.

Among those disappointed by the Ten Hag’s ways were Varane and Casemiro, who joined from Real Madrid in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

Both players were coached by renowned managers Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane while at Madrid and told their United team-mates how they were given more ‘freedom’ and that their work was not too extreme in Spain. Ten Hag, by contrast, was more tactical, much to the distaste of Varane and Casemiro.

After winning a number of major trophies in Madrid, the duo did not back down, despite United staff arguing that playing in the Premier League requires hard work as opposed to training for La Liga games.

However, alumni were not the only ones who disagreed with Ten Hag about his methods. Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract has been terminated by mutual consent during the 2022/23 season after a disagreement with the manager, and this has finally led to some United players feeling confident that they will face the Ten Hag.

Varane will leave United this summer following the end of his contract, and the club may try to sell Casemiro, who has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
