In their amazing finish T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, Sri Lanka registered an 83-run victory over the The Netherlands at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St. Lucia on Monday (June 17).
Strong batting performance from Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka started their innings in impressive fashion, posting an impressive total of 201/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Charith Asalanka set the pace with a blistering 46 off just 21 deliveries, supported by strong contributions from Kusal Mendis (46) again Dhananjaya de Silva (34). Angel Matthews (30) and Wanindu Hasaranga (20) provided the finishing touch with a quick-fire innings, propelling Sri Lanka past 200 runs, a rarity in this tournament.
Clinical bowling display against Netherlands
Chasing 202 to win, Netherlands started their innings well Michael Levitt showing aggression in the power play. However, Sri Lanka’s diverse bowling attack soon asserted control. Nuwan Thushara was leading the charge on 3/24, while captain Hasaranga no Matheesha Pathirana they took two wickets each. Dasun Shanaka again Mahesh Theekshana was also a key contributor as the Netherlands were bowled out for 118 in 16.4 overs.

Despite Levitt’s momentary resistance, the Netherlands struggled to cope with Sri Lanka’s disciplined bowling attack and were eventually bowled out.
