Euro 2024: Scotland v Switzerland

Game preview

Scotland will be hoping to get their Euro 2024 campaign going again – and banish the memory of their horror opening night performance against Germany – when they face Switzerland in Cologne.

Steve Clarke’s men were blown away by the tournament hosts thanks to Antonio Rudiger’s late goal for the Tartan Army.

Scotland will be without centre-back Ryan Porteous, who is suspended after receiving a red card for a challenge on Ilkay Gundogan which led to a penalty for Kai Havertz.

Clarke is a fan of Switzerland, who beat Hungary 3-1 in their first match.

He said: “People always look at the Swiss and think that they are a small nation in football, but they are always there in big competitions.

“So when it comes to tournament football, like the one in Germany, they were in it – the same as the Swiss team.

“They know how to survive in competitions and they are a nation that we should learn from.”

Switzerland manager Murat Yakin has a squad full of tournament experience and key striker Breel Embolo is also back to full form after scoring goals against the Hungarians.
