Arsenal pundit Charles Watts has detailed what the Gunners could do next in the transfer market after failing to secure the signature of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

Discussing Arsenal’s plans after Sesko’s decision to stay at Leipzig, Watts said: “The way Arsenal react to missing out on Benjamin Sesko will be very interesting. I don’t think they’re just focused on getting one out and going number nine.
“We’ve just been talking about Xavi Simons and it wouldn’t surprise me if Arsenal will now focus on strengthening the attack by bringing in someone who can add goals and create everywhere.
“Kai Havertz’s improved form in the second half of last season has reduced the need for a new striker.”
He added: “So they have good options up front and I think they will continue to follow Sesko. So they won’t rush out and sign a striker just for the sake of it.
“There is a strong argument that a new wide option is important when it comes to strengthening the squad and we know they like players like Pedro Neto and Nico Williams.
“There’s certainly a big hole in the squad for a player like one of them and I think a signing like this might now make more sense than an out-and-out number nine.”
