In an amazing display of batting ability, Smriti Mandhana wrote his name in the annals of Indian cricket during the second ODI against them South Africa at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday (June 19)

Choosing to bat after South Africa’s decision, Mandhana, following his 117 strikeout in the previous game, produced another impressive innings, reaching his century in just 103 deliveries. His innings, studded with 12 fours and two sixes, not only strengthened India’s innings but also showed his ability to overcome the opposition’s bowling attack. Mandhana was finally out after scoring 136 goals.

Mandhana’s century in the match marked her second consecutive century in the series against South Africa, which has never been achieved by an Indian women’s cricketer in ODIs. The milestone also made him equal with the former Indian captain Mithali RajThe record for ODI centuries by an Indian woman, both boasting seven centuries. Mandhana’s achievement is highly commendable considering that she achieved this feat in 84 innings while Mithali took 211 innings, highlighting her consistency and impact at the top of India’s batting line-up.

Beyond equaling Raj’s record, Mandhana became the first Indian woman cricketer to score two centuries in a combined ODI series. His collaboration with Shafali Verma and later the captain Harmanpreet Kaur (108 not out) played a key role in India’s innings, as they built a towering partnership that propelled India into the play-off spot as they took India to a total of 325/3 in their 50 overs.
