Man United want West Ham player Edson Alvarez

West Ham United midfielder Edson Alvarez is being linked with a move to Manchester United this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Despite Kobbie Mainoo’s success, the midfielder remains one of the areas of concern for Man United next season.

The Red Devils have signed Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in recent years but they have been short-term fixes and both of those players are likely to leave the club soon.

Sofyan Amrabat, who joined the Red Devils on loan from Fiorentina, is likely to be sent back.

As for Scott McTominay, he is used more as a team player and not as a starter.

To solve this problem, Man United manager Erik ten Hag could look to sign his former player Alvarez.

The Dutch boss knows the midfielder well from his days at Ajax and the ten-year-old Hag managed to get the best out of the Mexico international.

Man United are busy searching for new players in the market as they aim to strengthen their squad under the leadership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s new owner.

Romano reported Man United’s interest in the West Ham midfielder on his X account.

He wrote:

“Man United are seriously considering bringing in a new midfielder – almost certainly if Casemiro leaves.

“Understanding Mexico’s captain Edson Álvarez is one of the options that have been discussed internally, which is enjoyed by the ten Hag.

“It is a difficult deal, as West Ham consider him an important player.”

Edson Alvarez to Man United?

Alvarez was one of West Ham’s best players last season and they would not be willing to part with him.

Man United will find it difficult to sign Alvarez

Even if they agree to let the Mexican midfielder go, they will want him for a star fee.

The midfielder won the Dutch league title under the tutelage of Ten Hag and to replace Casemiro in the lineup, the Red Devils are keen on his signature.

As Romano revealed, it will not be easy for the Premier League giants to sign him.

With four years left on his contract at West Ham, Alvarez will not be cheap and Man United will have to dig deep into their pockets to sign him.
