Man United provided a boost as AC Milan exited the race for Joshua Zirkzee

AC Milan have reportedly lost their chance in the race to sign Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna giving a big boost to Premier League clubs Man United and Arsenal.

It looks like the Dutch star is on his way to the San Siro at some point as Zirkzee believed he was happy to stay in Serie A. However, Corriere dello Sport it is now being reported that Milan have lost their chance in the race for the 23-year-old and are already exploring other targets.

This is a huge boost for Man United and Arsenal as the English duo continue to monitor Zirkzee’s situation in Bologna.

It was reported this week by David Ornstein of The Athletic that the Manchester club are looking at a deal to sign the striker and are considering whether to take formal action as United boss Erik ten Hag wants a new player at Old Trafford in the new season.

Team-to-team discussions have not yet progressed, but the Red Devils are talking to the player’s representatives and their interest has increased.

As for Arsenal, the Gunners are still monitoring the 23-year-old and have yet to make it official, reports Sky Sports.

Man United and Arsenal have fueled the race for Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee

Why are Man United and Arsenal chasing Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee?

There are several reasons why Zirkzee is hot this summer as the striker offers interested clubs a different price in an area where players will demand huge sums during the current transfer window.

The Bologna star has a contract with the Serie A side until 2026 but that deal contains a €40m (£34m) release clause, making a transfer easier to get over the line.

That price is very attractive, but so are the 23-year-old’s numbers.

Zirkzee was a key player in Bologna’s successful season as he produced 12 goals and provided seven more in 37 games as Thiago Motta’s side qualified for next season’s Champions League.

The Dutchman is not a player who will get 25+ goals in the Premier League next season, but he has great talent and his age allows the striker to improve.
