AB de Villiers and others react as Quinton de Kock, Keshav Maharaj give South Africa a crucial win over England in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
In an exciting match at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, St Lucia, South Africa eliminated England by a narrow margin of 7 runs in match 45 of the Super 8 Group 2 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. After electing to bowl first, England found themselves chasing a target of 164 set by South Africa. Despite a strong effort, England batted slowly, ending their innings at 156/6.
Quinton de Kock destroys England bowling
South Africa scored 163/6 in 20 overs, thank you very much for doing so well Quinton de Kock. The opener, who was named Player of the Match, scored 65 runs off 38 balls, including 4 fours and 4 sixes, giving the Proteas a solid foundation. He was well supported by David Miller, who scored 43 off 28 balls, including 4 fours and 2 sixes. Other contributions appeared Reeza Hendricks (19 off 25) and Tristan Stubbs (12 out of 11). England’s bowling attack was led by Jofra Archerwho took 3 wickets for 40 runs, during Adil Rashid again Menzi Ali they went in with a wicket each.

Keshav Maharaj shows exceptional bowling skills
Chasing 164, England’s innings lacked the momentum needed to overhaul South Africa’s total. Apart from a brilliant 52 off 37 balls from Harry Brookwho hit 7 boundaries, and a quickfire 33 off 17 from Liam Livingstone, England could not get over the line. The South African bowlers kept their morale, with Keshav Maharaj (2/25) and Kagiso Rabada (2/32) leading the attack. Ottniel Baartman again Anrich Nortje each contributed a wicket, keeping the pressure on the England batsmen throughout the innings.
Important moments
England’s decision to bowl first proved unsuccessful as De Kock and Miller dominated the game with their powerful batting. England’s bowlers, especially Archer, provided important success but could not stop South Africa from challenging. In response, England’s top order struggled to form a meaningful partnership, and despite recent surges from Livingstone and Brook, the run rate required seemed to rise sharply.

Wow. South Africa has been in ding dong traps in this tournament. However, Rabada is also important in bowling a tight over at the right time. You push back the finish line enough for others to do the rest.
