3 signings Liverpool need to make to compete with Man City and Arsenal

Liverpool’s hopes of winning the Premier League in Jurgen Klopp’s final season at the club went up in smoke in recent weeks.

One win in five saw Klopp’s side drop out of the race, with the Reds now five points adrift of league leaders Arsenal going into the final stages of the 2023/24 season.

So with Klopp leaving and Feyenoord manager Arne Slot set to take over, how can Liverpool compete with Manchester City and Arsenal in 2024/25?

Here are three signature must-haves to make it…

If there’s one reason why Liverpool have fallen short of the 2023/24 Premier League title, it’s that they’ve lost chances.

The Reds have managed to miss 61 ‘big chances’ this season, with Darwin Nunez – nine so far – conspiring to line up his lines in front of goal 26 times in the Premier League alone.

This malaise in front of goal is the perfect excuse for Liverpool to go out and sign a clinical number nine this summer.

And the man who fits that bill perfectly is Victor Osimhen.

The Napoli striker will be available this summer for just over £100m, and considering his record 75 goals in 130 games in all competitions for the Serie A club, it’s fair to say that would be money well spent.

Liverpool’s midfield underwent a complete overhaul during the 2023 summer transfer window as Fabinho, Jorgan Henderson, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were replaced by Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.

While those adjustments have often been successful, it has become clear in recent months that Liverpool are likely in need of another viable and quality option in the middle of the park.

Long linked with a move to Anfield, Khephren Thuram is perhaps the most logical signing to add that extra strength and quality.

The 23-year-old can play as a number six and eight, and has been a standout for OGC Nice in recent seasons.

If you’ve been anywhere near Liverpool Twitter (X) in the past month, you’ll know the current fan sentiment towards Ibrahima Konate.

In case you haven’t already, let’s just say that Reds fans were not happy with the way he was playing.

So with that in mind, it makes sense for Liverpool to enter the market for a midfielder this summer. The defender they should see as their first choice is Goncalo Inacio.

Inacio has long been linked with a move to Anfield and would make the perfect left-footed partner for Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the Reds defence.
