European champion Tyler Denny defeated Felix Cash by technical decision in the fifth round

TYLER Denny successfully defended his European middleweight title last night in Birmingham, winning a technical decision over Felix Cash.

The challenger suffered an early cut over his right eye which only got worse as the fight went on, mostly due to Denny’s relentless punching. Referee Mark Lyson ruled that the cut was caused by a blow to the head, although it appeared that the fist had caused the initial wound.

Denny celebrated, thinking he had won by TKO, but was dragged to the cards and waited too long to secure his victory. Buzzing Cash at the end of the fourth, Tyler was the boss, but you never know in boxing.

Judges Lee Every and Victor Loughlin had it 49-47, while Kevin Parker scored it 49-46, all agreeing with the EBU’s reserve list. Cash was linked with Adam Booth in the tournament but looked rusty after a long absence.

Tyler Denny improves to 19-2-3 with just one KO. Money suffered his first loss, falling to 16-1 with 10 KOs. The once devastating puncher Denzel Bentley couldn’t cover Denny, who is now, rightly, calling for big nights and big paydays. His recent run of form has been fantastic and the Black Country man deserves a big fight to show continued improvement.

Speaking in the ring shortly after his win, Denny thought the writing was quickly on the wall for his opponent: “He was relentless man, he was tired after two rounds. I am a man. He had lost hope there. Put some respect in my name. That’s all I want. You have to put my name in the mix.”

The theme of “respect” continued backstage as Tyler explained Debate News why was he upset by Cash’s antics before the weightlifting match. Although the win was nice, Denny wanted to win in clean conditions.

“Yes, especially after he pushed me again. Not so much, but I wanted him to stay there. I wanted to give him digs, man. You know what I mean? Because I think he crossed the line at that point.”

Denny has also linked his name with Chris Eubank Jr, the man who wants to be paid by all middleweight contenders. While Tyler naturally wants to make money, the loser may need to get out of the sport altogether or at least consider his options for the future.
