Hasan Ali recalled T20Is against Ireland and England; Haris Rauf, Agha Salman is also back

Usama Mir and Zaman Khan missed out on selection for Pakistan’s upcoming T20Is against Ireland and England, while Hasan Ali, who last played a T20I in 2022, has been called up to the squad. Haris Rauf, who was injured during the PSL, is included, as Agha Salman is also back.

The squad, which was announced at a press conference held by three members of the player selection committee, also saw the return of Mohammad Rizwan, Azam Khan and Irfan Khan, who were ruled out of the New Zealand series last month due to injury. However, there is no confirmation yet that the trio – or Rauf – has fully recovered, with selector Wahab Riaz expressing confidence in their involvement.

“Rizwan, Haris, Irfan and Azam are being tested,” he said. “There is a noticeable improvement in their fitness. They are part of the team because we hope they will be ready for the Ireland series.”

Pakistan’s squad largely consists of the squad called up for the home T20Is against New Zealand, with Usman Khan, Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim retaining their places. Despite the late speculation about Aamer Jamal’s possible return, the allrounder is unstoppable, while the cold spell of hard-hitting top-order Mohammad Haris also continues.

Hasan, who like Jamal currently plays county cricket for Warwickshire, was selected by the PCB more for his experience and pedigree in the ICC tournament rather than current form. Hasan enjoyed an impressive PSL this year with Karachi Kings, taking 14 wickets at 8.26, but was not selected for the New Zealand series.

His selection appears to be based on a belief in his ability beyond solid statistics, and the opportunity to test him in Ireland and England before the 18-man squad is whittled down to 15 for the T20 World Cup.

Pakistan play three T20Is against Ireland from May 10, before playing four matches against England. The deadline to announce the T20 World Cup squad (May 25) is after the first T20I match against England (May 22).
