Power and Pride: Gully leads the way with the Black Country card

By Paul Webb in Wolverhampton

GULLY Powar enter another job guaranteed to win closing points Joshua Ocampo at BCB Promotions’ main event at the Hangar Venue in Wolverhampton Pride of the Dark World.

The 21-year-old from Wolverhampton is one of the most active prospects in the Midlands. His eleven wins in just eighteen months as a professional was no doubt very exciting for him. He was frustrated and dominated his Colombian opponent, who did not lay a glove on him.

Powar may lack a high knock-out rate, but he is starting to settle down in his shots and maintain high intensity throughout the six rounds.

Ocampo was doing his best to make the fight ugly, and both men fell to the canvas after a dirty exchange, but Powar continued his game plan, finishing the fight strong and taking a 60-54 decision on referee Ryan Churchill’s scorecard.

Brandon Bethell he turned a boxing show into an Oasis gig with a Liam Gallagher-inspired ring, which went down a storm with his army of fans.

The 22-year-old from Wolverhampton didn’t let the theater entrance put him off, as he didn’t wait for any process to feel outside; instead, he went straight to the body of his Honduran opponent, Jayro Fernando Duranripping lefts and rights with a continuous attack that would have stopped a lot.

The experienced Duran switched to southpaw and began to climb as Bethell continued to push the pace in the middle rounds.

It was the Wolves season ticket holder’s first fight of the six-rounder, and after a flurry of starts, he was expected to start to slow down, and Duran landed occasional left hands when Bethell was a tad over-eager, managing to score a round on Peter McCormack’s scorecard as the fight it goes on for a long distance.

Jermaine Osbourne-Edwards you are about to take the big title and get important rounds against the Ukranian Mykhailo Sovtus, going the full distance of six rounds. The 35-year-old from Wolverhampton has already captured the Midlands super-lightweight title, but knows his future may lie at welterweight, where he carries more power.

Usually a sitter, the ‘Kundalini King’ seemed to be looking to punch inside as he landed plenty of uppercuts and showed some intensity.

Bigger tests will come for the Wolverhampton Boxing Club man, but he is becoming a complete boxer and deservedly took the scorecard 60-54.

It was another top class show from the show Danny Skidmorewhich made it three wins out of three against four one-sided rounds Stefan Vincent. The 28-year-old from Tipton began by mixing up his shots well, looking to get open against his defensive opponent.

‘Skiddy’ worked well to the body at one point, landing three left hooks, which forced Vincent to temporarily switch southpaw to avoid his punishment. On the fourth, heavy shots rang out, and were often followed by cries of pain. Vincent was only stopped twice, and saw the fight while having some successful moments himself. Not that he was ever in danger of bothering the scorecard, as Skidmore took it 40-36.

Hope Omarah Taylor he got his third win against Poland Bojana Libiszewska, to take the victory for the closing points. The 30-year-old from Birmingham started with confidence, sang with precision and excelled with sharp, straight hands. Libiszewska looked composed and slowed down, but found it difficult to cope with the events that came her way.

A left hook to the body in the sixth round seemed to absorb most of Libiszewska’s power, and her condition worsened when she suffered a severe cut over her right eye from a clash of heads.

Taylor felt the opportunity for a second consecutive blow and ended the fight with a sustained attack; however, the talent coached by Joby Clayton was unable to force a stop, instead rallying for a 60-54 victory.
