After a two-day break with no matches for Euro 2024, the tournament returns with a bang on Saturday as the knockout stages begin.

But which 16 teams have made it to the finals, who will they face, when will the games be played, and on which channel will they be shown in the UK?

Let’s take a look, shall we?

Responsibilities

Saturday, June 29 – 5pm BST – Switzerland v Italy – BBC

The round of 16 starts with the runners-up in Group A, Switzerland, and the runner-up in Group B – Italy.

A local derby in Berlin between a team that has reached the knockout stages of six consecutive major competitions and the reigning champions.

The winners will advance to the quarter-finals where they will face England v Slovakia.

Saturday, June 29 – 8pm BST – Germany v Denmark – ITV

Another home derby and a repeat of the 1992 final, which Denmark famously won 2-0.

Germany collected eight points to top Group A and the Danes topped England in Group C, although they scored only two goals in their three games and drew all three.

Dortmund are sure to jump on this one.

The winner of the last 16 between Spain and Georgia is waiting for the winner of the last 8.

Sunday, June 30 – 5pm BST – England v Slovakia – ITV

There they are. The way England played on the field left a lot to be desired as they finished top of Group C with five points, but they couldn’t ask for more when it comes to matters off the field.

Slovakia finished third in Group E, although the four sides finished level on four points with one win, one draw and one loss.

Only Georgia’s shock win over Portugal ensured England would face Slovakia rather than Group D’s third-placed Netherlands.

Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and PSG defender Milan Skriniar are the most recognizable names, but the team that beat Belgium to start their campaign, are dangerous at set pieces and should not be underestimated.

If England can get past the Slovaks in Gelsenkirchen then Switzerland, or a reunion with Euro 2020 winners Italy, awaits in the last eight.

Sunday, June 30 – 8pm BST – Spain v Georgia – ITV

One for the purists, this one. Spain was the only one to win all three games and would have scored the best in its victory in Group B against Croatia, Italy and Albania.

They did not concede a goal and were able to give 25 of their 26 players playing time in the group, with their third-choice goalkeeper being the only one to play a minute in the tournament.

Georgia is the lowest ranked team in the tournament, sitting at 74th^th in the Fifa rankings, and managed to get Euro 2024 only through the United Nations.

After bright moments against Turkey and the Czech Republic, they stunned Portugal in their final Group F match to move up to third place.

These teams met once before, Spain won 7-1 in that event. Few will be picking Georgia to upset the odds this time in Cologne, but Portugal will tell you just how dangerous they can be.

Denmark or the country that will host this group is lurking in the quarter-final to find the winner.

Monday, July 1 – 5pm BST – France v Belgium – ITV

Honestly, who thought this game would be this fun? This should have been Austria or Netherlands v Romania or Ukraine, right? The runners-up from Group D and E will face each other in Dusseldorf with both sides looking to show their best after the group’s bottom-of-the-table campaign.

France are yet to find a goal in open play while Belgium were eliminated after limping to a draw with Ukraine in a group where the four teams finished level on four points.

The winner will face Portugal v Slovenia in the last eight.

Monday, July 1 – 8pm BST – Portugal v Slovenia – BBC

OK, so Portugal lost their final group game against Georgia, but they were already guaranteed top spot in Group F and rested eight starters including Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes.

They will be strong favorites to see off the Slovenians in Frankfurt, despite finishing third in Group C with three draws and conceding just two goals.

A quarter-final against Belgium or France awaits whichever team comes out on top.

Tuesday, July 2 – 5pm BST – Romania v Netherlands – BBC

Another tie that broke a few brackets. This was expected to be Belgium against Austria, or perhaps a lowlands derby.

As it stands, Romania top Group E on goals scored, and were one goal away from a clean sheet going into the dying seconds of their third group game.

The Netherlands finished third in Group D after being knocked out 3-2 in a historic clash with Austria but by design or not, they find themselves in the ‘easy’ part of the draw – on paper at least – and are hoping for a revival. rivals Austria or face Turkey in the quarter-final.

This clash in Munich may be the least likely of all last-16 encounters.

Tuesday, July 2 – 8pm BST – Austria v Turkey – ITV

The last game of the round of 16 and two other countries will feel they have the opportunity to go deeper in this competition as they have been drawn with half of the group which keeps them away from Spain, Germany, France and Portugal.

Austria topped Group D, going down against France with an own goal but bouncing back to knock out Poland and the Netherlands.

Turkey finished second to Portugal in Group F as they beat Georgia, were swept aside by the group winners and got a late winner when they had already beaten the Czechs.

They will be hampered by a suspension in Leipzig after a card scandal in their last group game but have shown they can find quality moments if they care.
