Alan Smith feels Faes and Vestergaard are not good enough for the Premier League
Former Leicester City player Alan Smith believes Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard are not good enough to play in the Premier League.
The Foxes won promotion to the Premier League at the first time of asking as Enzo Maresca guided them to the Premier League title.
However, things did not go well after the end of the season when Maresca joined Chelsea, and star player Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also closed a move to Stamford Bridge.
Faes and Vestergaard are not good enough in the Premier League
New manager Steve Cooper has a tough job on his hands as he looks to strengthen the squad to ensure the Foxes stay in this division next season.
Leicester may be looking for a new striker, Kelechi Iheanacho will leave when his contract expires at the end of this month, while Jamie Vardy is still young and Patson Daka has not lived up to expectations.
However, Smith feels that the Foxes can also strengthen at the heart of the defense and appoint two players who he feels are not ready to play in the Premier League.
“Leicester need to add a few more players to their Premier League quality squad,” he told Prime Casino.
“Back then, if you look at Vestergaard and Wout Faes, you don’t see that as a double act that will be good enough in the Premier League.”
Smith added that Leicester must be smart in the transfer market and that Jamie Vardy could do the job as a substitute.
“At the top, Jamie Vardy can’t go on forever, he can still do a substitute job,” continued Smith.
“Leicester need to be as honest in the transfer market as they were a few years ago, they will need to produce rabbits in the hat, as they did when they signed N’Golo Kante and Mahrez.
“Those players were at a high level in the Premier League and they both came from nowhere.
“It’s not easy to do that, to get that kind of talent, Leicester need to strengthen, without a doubt. I hope they can handle it.”
Leicester’s first game back in the Premier League is at home to Tottenham on August 18.
