The Indian cricket team continued its amazing journey in the T20 World Cup 2024to get a place in the final competition South Africa.

This important game will not only mark the peak of their current campaign but also tell the end of the era under Rahul Dravid’s tenure. Appointed as head coach in December 2021, Dravid has guided Team India to several memorable tournaments, culminating in the final tournament at Kensington Oval, Barbados on Saturday (June 29).

Rahul Dravid’s emotional farewell and reflection

Ahead of the final, Dravid, in a poignant moment during the team’s last session under his leadership, shared a heartfelt reflection on his coaching journey.

Speaking in a video shared by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Dravid expressed deep gratitude for his experience with the Indian cricket team over the past two and a half years. He highlighted personal and family investment in the team’s journey, emphasizing how his children have also grown the team’s wealth on the field.

“I really enjoyed myself. I think it was a good learning experience for me and my family as well. I think everyone has invested in the Indian team in the last two and a half years. I certainly have, obviously, to be here. But so did my family in every result the Indian team was a part of. So it was really cool for me to see how my two boys did that. The kind of people I’ve enjoyed working with, my coaching staff, the people I’ve worked closely with” Dravid said.

Camaraderie and lasting bonds

Dravid also acknowledged the challenges faced by the relationships built within the coaching staff and players. He expressed both satisfaction and regret at the team’s results, stressing that the connections and friendships formed during his tenure will last long after the bad and bad.

“And then overall, with the support staff, the professionalism around you. I think it’s my favorite thing. I know there have been results and we’ve had really good results this time, we’ve had times when it wasn’t that easy. And that is part and parcel of being a coach and being a cricket team. But for me, I think the best memories I’ll remember are the connections I made, the friendships I made. That will last long after I forget and remember some of these good results or bad results” Dravid concludes.

Achievements under Dravid’s leadership

During Dravid’s tenure as head coach, India’s performance at the international level has been impressive. The team reached the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup, followed by a remarkable appearance in the final World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 and the ODI World Cup in 2023. Despite these achievements, the coveted ICC trophy remains elusive for Team India under Dravid’s leadership.
