Klay Thompson’s Four Free Agents Emerge As Close-Up Heroes

Warriors fans get ready, because Klay Thompson will be wearing a different NBA jersey for the first time in the 2024-25 season.

It is reported that the champion who has played four games is “willing” to leave Golden State free, so much so that he has said goodbye to other Warriors officials, Athletic’s Tim Kawakami says.

“Klay Thompson is set for free agency and — regardless of emotional swings — the Warriors and Thompson are more than ready for his imminent move to the Bay Area,” Kawakami said. “Well done, an NBA source revealed this weekend that a fond farewell was shared between Klay and high-level members of the Warriors organization.”

There are four leading suitors for the 34-year-old, according to multiple sources.

“Klay Thompson plans to hold talks with the Mavericks, Lakers, Clippers and 76ers during the opening of free agency, sources said. ESPN,” reports Adrian Wojnarowksi.

NBA insider Shams Charania also shared, “Many teams with cap space are expected to show interest in Thompson as well.”

It appears that staying on the West Coast would be a viable option for Klay and he is willing to pursue an opportunity with the Lakers.

“Sources: Klay Thompson is happy to play with the Lakers and LeBron James, as long as he re-signs with the Lakers. Thompson plans to talk to the Lakers, as well as Dallas,” Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times told X.

LeBron chose to opt out of his $51.4 million player option to give the Lakers the flexibility to sign a player like Klay.

James is “hopeful” his team can compete with Dallas, which also has the ability to reach outside the full midlevel to go after Klay, reports Marc Stein.

“As we’ve been reporting for 24-plus hours: Klay Thompson’s departure from the Golden State Warriors appears to be imminent … as LeBron James hopes, according to league sources today, that the Lakers can file a bid to challenge Dallas,” Stein said. X.

Thompson is still an elite shooter after connecting on 38.7 percent of his attempts from three-point range last season and undoubtedly helps a contending team with his championship experience.
