Hardik Pandyaafter facing the wrath of the fans during the riot Indian Premier League (IPL) season as the new captain of Mumbai Indians (MI)made an emphatic return to ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 held in the USA and the Caribbean.
A key performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup
Pandya made valuable contributions with both bat and ball. Batting in critical conditions, he scored 144 runs at an impressive 150-over rate. His bowling was equally influential, taking 11 wickets throughout the tournament.
His most memorable performance was in the final, where he sparked South Africa’s dramatic collapse. As South Africa need only 30 runs from 30 balls again Heinrich Klaasen full, Pandya dismissed Klaasen with the first ball in the 17th over. He then bowled a tough final over, defending for 16 runs to lead India to a seven-run win and a second T20 World Cup title.
Climbing to the top of the ICC Rankings
After his impressive performance, Pandya climbed two places in the ICC T20I rankings, becoming the first Indian to achieve the top spot. He now shares this position with Sri Lanka Wanindu Hasaranga.
