Keyshawn Davis 134.8 Vs. Miguel Madueno 134.7 – Weigh-in Results for ESPN

Lightweights Keyshawn Davis and Miguel Madueno made weight Friday for their ten-round undercard this Saturday, July 6, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. 2016 silver medalist Davis weighed in at 134.8 lbs, while Madueno (31-2, 28 KOs) weighed in at 134.7 lbs.

Davis Makes Weight, Attempts to Intimidate Opponent

Keyshawn, 25, tried to get an answer from Madueno by putting his fist in his face while they were facing each other, but to no avail. Madeuno did nothing, making Keyshawn look like a bully.

It wouldn’t mean much if Keyshawn was fighting someone who wasn’t a heavy favorite to beat, like Andy Cruz, his four-time champion, who is pure kryptonite to him. Top Rank is not willing to match Cruz with Keyshawn and watch their star lose for the fifth time to the talented Cuban.

After making the weight, Keyshawn told the media, “I’m the best at 135.” Unfortunately, Andy Cruz fights at 135, and fans will continue to see him over him until Keyshawn faces him and proves otherwise. The way Keyshawn gets animated and flustered at the mention of Cruz’s name suggests he knows he’s out of his league.

Keyshawn-Madueno will fight on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+. The event begins at 8:30 pm ET/5:30 pm PT.

Davis’ Frustration With Contrast

“I can do my duty to call these fighters. I won’t be able to go there to make a match and promote,” said Keyshawn Davis to the media, explaining why he failed to move up to the best fighters at the moment.

Most boxing fans believe that Keyshawn could push Top Rank to match him with the killers at 135 if he wanted to, but he’s not going to waste the good money that comes with being paid good money to fight soft meat.

Keyshawn talked about going house hunting after his ten-round decision over Nahir Albright, a fight that seemed to drag on last October. Albright hurt Keyshawn in that fight and put him in the cave before the sixth round, appearing to lose in the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th rounds.

“So, if Top Rank wants to include me with those guys, I’m ready,” said Keyshawn. “I’m fine right now. I was good when I was 6-0. So, whenever you put me in with those guys, you’re going to see me there.”

Keyshawn is not ready to fight any top five or other bottom ten fighters. I rate Keyshawn here at lightweight:

  1. Gervonta Davis
  2. Vasily Lomachenko
  3. William Zepeda
  4. Andy Cruz
  5. Abdullah Mason
  6. Edwin De Los Santos
  7. Floyd Schofield
  8. Raymond Muratalla
  9. Berinchyk denies
  10. Shakur Stevenson
  11. Mark Chamberlain
  12. Keyshawn Davis

“Every time you put me with these guys, that’s where you’ll see me,” said Keyshawn when asked when he’ll fight the talented Raymond Muratalla. “Muratalla, no one can defeat me. From the top down to the bottom.”

Davis Advanced Programs

Top Rank is expected to support Keyshawn against the WBO lightweight champion Berinchyk in 2025 and they understand that he wins that fight because his technical ability is not the same as this guy.

It would be better for Top Rank to hold off on that fight and focus on preparing Keyshawn for a payday against WBA champion Tank Davis.

At least if Keyshawn loses to Tank, he’ll make a big pile and have a good excuse to tell the fans, blame the loss on him fighting the #1 guy. If Keyshawn is beaten by Berinchyk, he will look bad in the eyes of the fans because most of them have never heard of him.

Davis’s Angry Response to the Petitions of Strong Opponents

“No one will beat me. I’m on top of 135 right now, and that’s my limit. So, you want to see me fight Muratalla? That’s right,” said Keyshawn, annoyed by the interviewer who wanted him to be tested by another young talent.

“So, you want to see Muratalla removed. I don’t care what you say. He wants to see Muratalla removed. That is the truth. They want to see me fight everyone. I deserve to fight the whole boxing world. Don’t worry about it,” said Keyshawn.
