Jackson Holliday is not on this list. One of the few rules I’ve used here is that if you’re a major leaguer in the current season, you’re off the roster. Holiday cashed those big league game checks, so he won’t be represented here.
1. Rays 3B Junior Caminero | 20 | Il
He strained his quad in late May and was expected to miss four to six weeks. Tampa is 4.5 games out of the last wild card spot as of Saturday morning and has already traded Aaron Civale, but that was as much about making room for Baz as anything else.
2. Orioles 3B Coby Mayo | 22 | AAA
It sounds like it will take an injury or more injuries for Mayo to travel to Baltimore.
3. Diamondbacks 3B Deyvison De Los Santos | 21 | AAA
Eugenio Suarez continues to deteriorate. Kinda feels like the dentist would be up if Arizona thought he could hang on to the hot corner, but the club already said it would play Blake Alexander at third base before sending Alexander back to the minors, so they’re clearly considering their options. . In 40 Triple-A games, DDLS is slashing .304/.347/.627 with 12 home runs.
4. Cubs C Moises Ballesteros | 20 | AAA
Tomas Nido and Miguel Amaya share the work, but neither is hitting. Amaya has a wRC+ of 46 and Nido is 63. Ballesteros has only played 14 games in Triple-A, but is slashing .333/.367/.474 as a three-hitter. The Cubs are six games out of the last wild-card spot and might prefer to leave him in the minors, but it doesn’t make sense to give up so many outs in the lineup every night when your best Triple-A hitter is there to play. the same position, even if promoting him would invite him to retreat from protection.
5. Tigers RHP Jackson Jobe | 21 | AA
At 8.5 games out of the last wild card spot, Detroit is close to the tank. Jobe is ready for Triple-A and maybe the majors, but I doubt we’ll see him before September. He allowed one run and recorded eight strikeouts in five innings Friday night in his Double-A debut since May 1.
6. Tigers 3B Jace Jung | 23 | AAA
He homered Saturday in a rehab game and should return to Triple-A on Monday.
7. Yankees BY Jason Dominguez | 21 | Il
He was injured on June 19 with an oblique strain. It is said that he will miss six to eight weeks.
8. Diamondbacks RHP Yilber Diaz | 23 | AAA
He will reportedly be reinstated to start Monday’s home game against Atlanta. It’s not an ideal situation on the first day of the job, but if Diaz can get around after that, he has the strikeout stuff to start once he settles down. After news of his promotion broke, Diaz was traded. on Razz 30 and Cubs RHP Ben Brown and Guardians 1B CJ Kayfus in exchange for Giants OF Heliot Ramos and Astros utility man Mauricio Dubon. A perfectly timed trade for the team that acquires Ramos.
9. Dodgers LHP Justin Wrobleski | 23 | AAA
It is reported that he will be reinstated to start tonight’s game at home against Milwaukee. He’s the only option the club has left while Clayton Kershaw is out, so I think he’ll be back soon even if they send him down next week. He recorded a 1.03 WHIP in 13 Double-A starts before logging 1.35 in a few turns at Triple-A. He has command and the skills to succeed if he has rhythm.
10. Braves SS Nacho Alvarez Jr. | 21 | AAA
The front office gave Orlando Arcia a vote of confidence, but he’s posting a 59 wRC+ and .245 on-base percentage right now, so it’s at least possible to imagine what the lineup might look like with Nacho Alvarez Jr. immediately. In 19 Triple-A games, Alvarez is slashing .354/.430/.598 with five home runs and three stolen bases, good for a 162 wRC+. He always has good skills at the plate, but the power is very new.
11. Padres OF Tirso Ornelas | 24 | AAA
Even with David Peralta starting in the outfield, the Padres are on fire, winning eight of their last ten games and building a cushion in their playoffs. Donovan Solano has hit well as a Designated Hitter, and 2B Xander Bogaerts is on his way back, so there is a path to an improved lineup that doesn’t involve the big AJ Preller trade. To me, it makes sense to promote Ornelas and see if he can jump into the contender ranks. If he looks completely lost for a few weeks, you know better than to try to plan a postseason run.
12. Athletics SS Jacob Wilson | 22 | AAA
The sixth pick in 2023, Wilson already has nothing to prove to the minors. Oakland will have to do the idiot dance of an overdraft if they want to leave Wilson on the island in Triple-A. His quality here makes me feel like they’re used to doing that dance, but they haven’t had someone push for promotion this quickly in a long time, so maybe there’s room for optimism.
