As Davis Thompson caught fire Saturday afternoon and led the John Deere Classic by two heading into the final round, one big burden emerged.
He needed to support the “Champions House” of the tournament for the third year in a row.
“It was fun hanging out with those guys this week,” Thompson said. “I hope it can happen [will be] three years in a row. That would be great. It seems like everyone will want to live in that house next year.”
The second-year player is one of six players on the field who live in the same house this week. The same house was home to the John Deere Classic champion two years ago with Sepp Straka and JT Poston.
Straka has his family over this week so Thompson is actually staying in the same room he slept in last year when he won his second PGA Tour title.
He was joined by Poston, Greyson Sigg, Patton Kizzire, Denny McCarthy and Ben Kohles, the same group that booked the house two years ago, while Thompson asked for Brendon Todd.
Last year the group played baseball and frisbee at homecoming together and Thompson said the vibes are very similar this year.
“It’s great,” Thompson said. “I was walking, eating dinner every night and sitting by myself, watching TV. We are really spoiled and all the guys in the house are nice. “
If a stay at the “Champion House” leads to a win, many will try to book their stay each year.
