Vilamoura’s Old Course benefits from major renovation – Golf News
The second oldest course in the Algarve has undergone a fundamental and ongoing series of updates over the past few months, with a state-of-the-art clubhouse set to open in November.
Nuno Sepúlveda, co-CEO of DETAILS, the management platform that oversees all of Vilamoura’s golf assets, said: “The renovation of the Old Course is in line with the long-term vision of improving quality, complexity, and a simple guest experience. This development is aimed specifically at maintaining high standards of golf facilities and service and strengthening the image of Vilamoura as a premier golf destination.
“The refurbishment has been carefully planned to respect its classic design and rich heritage, while introducing improvements that enhance the overall golf experience. By carefully balancing the old with the new, the renovation ensures that the course remains a popular destination for golfers.”
The greens and the fairways will all receive careful care, the sleeping areas will be sharpened with new sand, lips and slopes, and the tee boxes will be planted with Bermuda grass, its roots will be cleaned, leveled, and some will be redirected from time to time, making the tees more environmentally sustainable and premium quality.
The overall look of the course will have more definition between the grassy playing areas and the dramatic structure of the pine trees. This will have a big impact on both appearance and quality, when roads get more sunlight.
Outside the course and away from the clubhouse, there will be a re-authorization of the driving range and the addition of modern technology, allowing for different training sessions and experiences, to provide all golfers.
