Leeds United’s Diego Llorente will complete a move to Real Betis this week

Leeds United defender Diego Llorente is set to complete a move to Real Betis this week after agreeing terms with the La Liga club.

The defender was expected to leave Elland Road ahead of the 2024/25 campaign and spent last season on loan at AS Roma.

The 30-year-old’s time in Italy was successful as he appeared in 30 Serie A and 11 Europa League games.

Many expected the Spaniard to return to the Italian capital this summer but Llorente will now return to his homeland to play for Real Betis.

According to Football Insider, the defender has agreed terms with Betis and the transfer is expected to be completed this week, with the Leeds player awaiting a medical. The final touches are currently being wrapped up and once completed, that should ensure his exit from Elland Road.

Llorente has been with the Yorkshire side since 2020 but since losing out in the Championship, the defender is looking to move on.

La Liga is a league that Llorente knows well having entered the Real Madrid academy.

That prepared the defender to play for a number of clubs in Spain as he ended up being Real Sociedad in 2020, which is when he joined Leeds. This makes the midfielder a good signing for Manuel Pellegrini as he will bring more experience to his Real Betis team.

From the player’s point of view, this is also a good move as Betis is one of the strongest clubs in La Liga and will compete in European football this season as they won the Europa Conference League.
