Kylian Mbappe will be presented by Real Madrid next week

Kylian Mbappe will be unveiled as a new Real Madrid player next Tuesday, the club said.

Mbappe’s disappointing Euro 2024 campaign ended last night as France were beaten 2-1 by Spain in the semi-finals in Munich.

But the 25-year-old has the chance to quickly return his focus to club affairs as Madrid announce that Mbappe will be on display in the Spanish capital in six days.

The club’s statement reads as follows: “Real Madrid announces that next Tuesday, July 16, at 12:00 p.m., our player Kylian Mbappé will be presented at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.

“The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, will welcome Kylian Mbappé to Real Madrid City to officially sign a contract that binds our new player to the club for the next five seasons.

“After the presentation, Kylian Mbappé will meet the media in the Santiago Bernabéu press room.”

Mbappe has agreed a five-year contract with Madrid after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired at the end of last season. He will wear the number nine shirt, instead of his preferred number 10 out of respect for incumbent Luka Modric.

The end of the saga

It also ends Mbappe’s long pursuit of Madrid, which saw them offer PSG around £170m for him until 2021 and hold talks with the 2018 World Cup winner before he signs a new contract at the Parc des Princes in 2022.

Mbappe is PSG’s all-time top scorer, his 256 goals putting him 56 clear of nearest goalscorer Edinson Cavani. He has been the top scorer in every season since his £166 million permanent move from Monaco in 2018, including 47 goals in 44 games last season.

A former French champion in 2016/17 with his former club, Mbappe won six Ligue 1 titles with PSG and the Coupe de France four times.

However, he did not enjoy a good European competition.

After breaking his nose in France’s opener against Austria, he missed the game against the Netherlands before returning to face Poland wearing a face mask.

The apparatus seems to hamper his movement and his only goal came from the penalty spot against the Poles in Dortmund.
