Barcelona agree personal terms with Nico Williams

Barcelona have agreed personal terms with Spain star Nico Williams as they work to bring the defender to Camp Nou this summer, according to reports.

The Spanish giants have long respected the Athletic Club player and have now reached an ‘agreement in principle’ with the Euro 2024 star, according to SPORTS.

The report revealed a meeting between Barca and Williams’ agent Felix Tainta, where the deal was struck.

The club now has to take care of the small issue of his release clause, which is worth around 58 million euros.

Despite the club’s financial concerns, Barca remain confident in their ability to sign the player, with president Joan Laporta confirming the Catalan’s ‘commitment’ to the 21-year-old.

“Obviously I love him, a lot,” Laporta said El Mati de Catalunya Radio. “Today we can sign Nico Williams.

“We are working with them [Hansi] Tap on potential signings. Now we have to go [sporting director] Deco to close the works we are working on. Soon we will be able to announce good news about finances [issues], and we will return within the limits of Fair Play of La Liga. And that will allow for more good news about [signings].”

Following an incredibly successful season with Athletic Club in which Williams made 37 appearances and registered eight goals and 19 assists, the player has shone on the international stage with Spain – helping his side secure a place in the Euro 2024 finals.

His talent has attracted the attention of many clubs, with Arsenal and Chelsea also looking to steal his signature this summer. He previously admitted that he will not wait for Barca forever, and may continue to negotiate with other suitors if they cannot pay his fee.

Spain, along with Williams, will face either England or the Netherlands in the tournament final and are hoping to lift European silverware in Germany.
