Player of the tournament

Many players have stepped up to the biggest league this summer, so it makes naming the best player a very difficult task.

Spain will dominate most debates but has several allies who have come in with a shout.

Lamine Yamal has surprised viewers who haven’t seen much of the 16-year-old Barcelona player, but there are probably a few key players in the squad.

Fabian Ruiz is another strong shout. The midfielder enjoyed a brilliant tournament and impressed with his tackling and defensive work together.

But the award simply goes to Rodri.

He was the best of all the players he faced and the Manchester City man simply proved that he is more than any other midfielder on the continent.

A very good match

Not every game was immortal this summer, but there were a few spectacles.

Turkey’s 3-1 win over Georgia was a great watch in Dortmund, with the rain, the atmosphere and the goalposts all raising the mood inside the stadium.

Georgia vs Spain in the last 16 is also a game to remember, it was an entertaining game from the first whistle to the last.

But Austria’s 3-2 win over the Netherlands was a thing of the past.

Ralf Rangnick put together a really good squad as head coach and they surprised most of Europe with a win against the semi-finalists.

Marcel Sabitzer’s late winner capped a fine day as it meant Austria topped the group ahead of opponents France.

Goal of the tournament

There is no shortage of spectacular strikes at Euro 2024, but who owns the best song of the summer?

Hakan Calhanoglou scored a blistering goal against the Czech Republic, while teammate Samet Akaydin’s goal against Portugal was equally hilarious.

Jude Bellingham’s spectacular overhead kick against Slovakia in the last 16 deserves a mention.

The timing and courage of such a strike from England has been made momentarily special, but there is one more strike that may succeed.

Yamal’s curling effort against France in the semi-final has been replayed over and over again.

The way he started miles outside the post before hitting it back in and past Mike Maignan who was on fire was simply brilliant.

Turkey’s Mert Muldur too, his volley against Georgia will also be a worthy winner.

Championship team

Now for the fun part, putting together the tournament team.

There shouldn’t be too many amazing names here, but it’s impossible to include everyone who has spent a few weeks in Germany.

In goal is Jordan Pickford, beating Giorgi Mamadashvili for his heroics in the penalty shootout against Switzerland.

The defense is made up of Dani Carvajal, Pepe, Marc Guehi and Marc Cucurella, who have been strong options for their countries.

A midfield five of Rodri, Fabian Ruiz, Nico Williams, Lamine Yamal and Jamal Musialia is hard to argue against, even if it consists mainly of Spanish players.

And at the top, Georges Mikautadze from Georgia finds his place and can still get a share of the Golden Boot, if Dani Olmo or Harry Kane fail to score.

Full squad: Pickford, Carvajal, Pepe, Guehi, Cucurella, Rodri, Ruiz, Williams, Yamal, Musiala, Mikautadze.
