After one month of exciting football, Euro 2024 reached its conclusion on Sunday evening when Spain came out on top against England in the final.
Throughout the past month, we have witnessed many exciting games, goals and individual performances.
In this article, as part of our 24 out of 24 series, we will focus on the latter – the best players in the German competition.
Here’s our pick of the team’s top ten.
Nation: Georgia
Georges Mikautadze was on the books for the Ligue 2 side in time for Euro 2024, and you wouldn’t have guessed it.
The striker was one of the tournament’s best players in the opening rounds, scoring an impressive three goals and an assist during Georgia’s impressive run to the knockout rounds. A sixth of the Gold Shield winners.
Nation: England
For some reason, Jordan Pickford becomes one of the best goalkeepers in the world when he wears an England shirt.
The Three Lions number one has also been in his nation’s best form throughout Euro 2024, particularly in the opening rounds when England’s forwards struggled to find form at the other end of the pitch.
Country: Turkey
Arda Guler was perhaps the breakout star of Euro 2024.
Despite only being 19 years old, the Real Madrid youngster has been an inspirational leader for Turkey in Germany, giving them the chance to progress to the last three when they reached the quarter-finals.
His goal against Georgia in particular will live long in the memory of fans.
Nationality: Spain
Given that he wasn’t a starter until Pedri got hurt, Dani Olmo did very well to make this list.
The RB Leipzig attacking midfielder earned his place thanks to his impressive performances in the quarter-final, semi-final and final of the tournament, where he scored twice and helped see Spain through.
Nationality: Germany
There was a point during Euro 2024 when Jamal Musiala looked certain to win Player of the Tournament.
In the end, he had to settle for sixth place in our rankings after Germany’s quarter-final exit.
The lad has been superb throughout his time at Euro 2024, and his performances in the group stages are truly inspiring.
Nationality: Spain
Nico Williams’ €58m release looks like the bargain of the century after his Euro 2024 exploits.
The winger has been electric in Germany, providing Spain with pace, trickery and, most importantly, end product from the left flank. He netted an important goal in the final for his team to win.
Country: Netherlands
Quite simply, the Netherlands would not have reached the semi-finals of Euro 2024 without Cody Gakpo.
In fact, they would not make it out of the group stages.
The Liverpool man was in inspired form in his native Germany, scoring three goals and regularly dragging the Dutch down at the end.
Expect him to have a huge 2024/25 season at Anfield.
Nationality: Spain
Fabian Ruiz was undoubtedly the most consistent player at Euro 2024.
The midfielder has provided consistent quality on and off the ball in Spain, playing well with Rodri at the heart of an extremely gifted La Roja side.
PSG will be praying to bring this form back to club level.
Nationality: Spain
If Rodri is on your team, you’ve probably won 99% of the football matches you’ve played.
Spain and Man City have been the beneficiaries of his game-winning mentality in recent seasons.
As expected, he was brilliant at Euro 2024 in Spain and took the Player of the Tournament award, but he is not our winner…
Nationality: Spain
Now 17 years old after celebrating his birthday on the eve of the final, Yamal was our best player in the tournament.
Such a thing does not happen.
Lamine Yamal has become a true star at Euro 2024, and proved that he has ‘all-time’ potential. His Young Player of the Tournament award was well deserved and he could easily have snatched the entire award from Rodri.
