TROY Jones will find home glory when he beats Leon Willings for the English light-heavyweight title on August 17 at the Eastside Rooms in Birmingham on BCB Promotions’ ‘For King and Country’ show.

The 25-year-old from Birmingham is unbeaten in 10 fights and made light work of his last opponent, the tricky Prince Oko Nartey, on May 10, stopping him in three rounds.

This first title came at the right time for the Lee Beard-trained heavyweight, and his promoter, Errol Johnson, has given him the opportunity to play at home.

“It would mean everything to me to win the England title,” said Jones. “I didn’t have a career as high as other fighters, so getting to this point is a big achievement, but it’s just the beginning.

“It is the beginning of another chapter in my career; Apprenticeships have been provided. I can’t wait to get in there and do the work. There will be great things to come in my career, 100% through hard work and dedication.”

Willings, meanwhile, has a record of eight wins and two losses, winning the Central Area light-heavyweight title in March 2023 with a stunning third-round stoppage of Jake Barton.

The 23-year-old from Widnes followed that up with a wide points win in their rematch eleven months later, but is best known for taking Olympian Ben Whittaker the distance back in March (below).

The undercard sees former European champion Kirstie Bavington make her second appearance of the year as she builds up another title fight.

Ryan Griffiths, newly crowned Midlands Area featherweight champion, will be fighting in a non-title fight. The unbeaten trio of Sian O’Toole, Nico Ogbeide, and Levi Vaughan complete the streak.

“I’m happy to get Troy a big title fight and win at home,” said promoter Errol Johnson. “He’s worked hard and waited patiently for his chance, and he’s facing a good opponent in Willings who will come and win.”
