WBO Seeks Notice of Medical Certification for Janibek Alimkhanuly After Fight Withdrawal

Janibek Alimkhanuly needs to prove that he is ready to fight.

The unified middleweight list must provide medical evidence to the WBO after his failure to defend his belts. Alimkhanuly (15-0, 10 knockouts) was hospitalized due to dehydration, one day before the match scheduled for July 13 against Andrei Mikhailovich (21-0, 13 KOs). The fight was canceled as a result, although it has since emerged that the undefeated Kazakh plans to stay at middleweight.

However, answers are still needed as to what led to his withdrawal.

“On July 12, 2024, the official newspaper of boxing news, [it was] report that [Alimkhanuly] was hospitalized due to dehydration forcing the postponement of his WBO/IBF Unified Middleweight Championship title defense against Andrei Mikhailovich on Saturday, July 13, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada,” the WBO told Top Rank’s representative in a letter obtained by The Ring. . “So, if we consider what has been said, the Team [Alimkhanuly] he is ordered to submit within the next 10 days after the issuance of this letter a detailed medical description of his condition.”

Alimkhanuly’s team must provide everything he has received, his recovery and when he will be officially cleared to return to the ring.

Another show on July 13 went ahead as planned. Mikhailovich was the only one injured, as he was left without an opponent.

Alimkhanuly has not fought since unifying the IBF and WBO middleweight titles. The feat came in a one-sided, sixth-round stoppage of Vincenzo Gualtieri, who was 21-0-1 at the time of their meeting on October 14. Alimkhanuly won the IBF belt and defended his WBO title for the third time.

The 31-year-old southpaw is ranked No. 1 by The Ring in the middleweight division. Erislandy Lara (30-3-3, 18 KOs), No. 4 at 160, holds the WBA belt. 2 ring limited Carlos Adames (24-1, 18 KOs) is the holder of the WBC title.

Controversies of inclusion or the real lack of sex appeal, although perhaps an undisputed and crowned champion of the ring could reignite the division. Lara and Adames are limited to one fight per year, leaving Alimkhanuly as the last hope.

For that to happen, you need to fight as planned. You now have ten days to convince the WBO that you are ready to do the job. Failure to do so will end his first major title reign as champion.
