NHL Rumors: St. Louis Blues, and Eastern Conference questions

St. Louis Blues have a lot of left backs

Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic: St. Louis Blues have six left defensemen vying for four roster spots – Nick Leddy, Torey Krug, Ryan Suter, Scott Perunovich, Tyler Tucker and Pierre-Olivier Joseph.

Blue GM Doug Armstrong has commented several times that a trade is possible. Krug’s name came up in speculation after they tried to move him last season but he blocked a trade to the Flyers. Krug still has a one-year non-transfer clause and a source close to him said he has no intention of waiving it. His NMC becomes an unsold club with 15 teams after next season. (article was written prior to yesterday’s news that Krug has pre-arthritic changes in his left ankle and will be re-evaluated in 6-8 weeks. Surgery will end his season)

NHL rumors: Yaroslav Askarov, and Evgeny Kuznetsov

Stopping him to see if anyone will want him, like the New York Rangers did with Barclay Goodrow, but there is no guarantee that anyone will want him.

The Blues can hope Tucker and/or Joseph can be waived.

Some season questions for other teams in the Eastern Conference

Sportsnet: Questions remaining for some teams in the Eastern Conference.

Boston Bruins – When will the Bruins get RFA Jeremy Swayman?

Carolina Hurricanes – Will they trade forward Martin Necas? Since the Hurricanes didn’t re-sign Jake Guentzel, they can’t rule out keeping Necas and signing him to RFA.

Florida Panthers – Will the Florida Panthers add anyone this offseason? Forwards Sam Bennett and Carter Verhaeghe, and defenseman Aaron Ekblad are entering the final year of their contracts.

Montreal Canadiens – Can they trade their top six? The Canadiens could be targeting a young player who may have untapped potential. They are looking at UFA veterans Patrick Kane and Jonathan Marchessault. They have small items on the green line to hang.

New York Islanders – Can they sign defenseman Noah Dobson to a contract extension?

New York Rangers – Will the Rangers be able to trade Jacob Trouba? He has a 15-team no-trade list and doesn’t want to tear his family apart. Two years left at $8 million.

NHL News: Flyers, Hurricanes, Ducks, Rangers, Senators, and Oilers

Ottawa Senators – Will the Sens hold contract extension talks with Linus Ullmark?

Philadelphia Flyers – Will they trade Morgan Frost? A 25-year-old could use a change of scenery.
