Atlantic City is a long way from Saudi Arabia, and that’s no doubt a good thing for Otto Wallin – although he may eventually be looking forward to a trip back to the Middle Eastern Kingdom. Last December, Wallin entered the ring at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh looking for former multi-heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Wallin had every reason in the world to be confident. He gave Tyson Fury all Fury could handle four years ago and Joshua was still looking to get back to work after dropping two in a row to Oleksandr Usyk.
Unfortunately for Wallin, Joshua proved to be much, much stronger. While Wallin was doing well early on, Joshua was able to knock Wallin down, causing the fight to be stopped between the fifth and sixth rounds. Still, when Joshua won the fight, Wallin didn’t want to call it a job. Joshua himself was coming back from defeat, so why couldn’t Wallin? Indeed, the question of what Wallin will look like on Friday night in his return to the Tropicana in Atlantic City is a source of interest for fight fans, especially those who look to the heavyweight division.
Wallin, after all, will be fighting Onoriode Ehwarieme in the main event of Boxing Insider Promotion’s card. This fight, which is scheduled to be eight (in the heavyweight division), should clarify exactly how Wallin comes back from losing to Joshua. After all, Joshua was the last to fight Wallin. Wallin should at least take solace in the fact that he is fighting Ehwarieme at the Tropicana, a venue with a rich boxing history that has produced such world-renowned names as Maurice Blocker, James Smith, Buddy McGirt, Jeff Lacy, Dwight Muhammad Qawi, and Eddie. Yes, boxing is a game for the unpredictable. There’s always a chance that Ehwarieme could pull off an upset…and one that could be quite an upset. It is not too much to say that a victory for Ehwarieme will shake the foundations of the heavyweight division. That’s why both Wallin and Ehwarieme will be answering the opening bell on Friday night with their futures, or possible futures, staring them in the face. Boxing is nothing if not hard work.
