Robin Uthappa talks about Sanju Samson’s performance in India’s ODI squad against Sri Lanka

In a recent interview with India Today, the veteran cricketer Robin Uthappa talked about the current debate Sanju Samson’exclusion from the Indian ODI squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. Apart from scoring a hundred in his last ODI against it South Africa in Paarl, Samsoni was again left out of the list. However, he has been included in the T20I squad for this series starting on July 27, 2024.

Robin Uthappa encourages patience with new leadership and management

Uthappa asked for patience and understanding from the new leadership and team management under the leadership of the head coach Gautam Gambhir. Uthappa said Sanju has faced similar situations before, and he should wait for his turn.

“According to Sanju, this is not the first time he has faced such uncertainty, again it probably won’t be the last. However, his one-day numbers were impressive. With changes in the leadership team, it is important to allow time to adjust. As fans and supporters of Indian cricket, we have to give that space,” said Thappa.

Uthappa’s advice to Sanju Samson

Sanju has played 16 ODIs in his career, amassing 510 runs at an impressive average of 56.67. Despite these numbers, Uthappa emphasized that Samson’s path to a permanent place in the ODI team depends on his ability to capitalize on opportunities and play consistently.

Uthappa pointed out that Sanju must make the most of whatever opportunities he gets. Uthappa said, “Sanju is not out of contention, just like any other player. It is time for him to get another chance. When that opportunity comes, he’ll need to produce consistent performances to secure his place in the team long-term.“
