Golf Business News – Invitation to contribute to a historic tribute to the Grand Old Man of Golf
People from all over the world are being invited to make history by contributing to the Tom Morris portrait project at St Andrews.
Planning permission has recently been granted for the erection of a bronze statue of Old Tom Morris on the Bow Butts overlooking the R&A Clubhouse and links.
Financial support for the project has been encouraging grant-giving organizations and individuals making pledges to allow the project to progress to this stage.
Speaking today, Chairman of the Tom Morris Statue Project Ronald Sandford said, ‘This is now an opportunity for golfers from all over the world to be part of this historic monument to honor the Grand Old Man of Golf to whom we have all gone. you owe a lot today.’
The cost of the project is estimated at over £100,000 and it is hoped that the template will be unveiled on Wednesday 2n.d In October on the eve of Dunhill.

Ronald added, “This global fundraising initiative is very much in line with the public response in 1909 when people from the town and far and wide, raised £600 to fund a statue of Tom Morris to be erected in or near the town. The Old Tom Statue Project Group (OTSPG) is a group of St Andrews locals who wish to see Tom Morris honored in their home town. The group includes Ronald Sandford (Chairman), David Sandford, sculptor David Annand, Callum MacLoed, David Strachan, Athole Reid, Chic Harper, Allan Peden and Roger McStravick.
