Jack Catterall’s August 24 fight against former light welterweight champion Regis Prograis has been postponed to October. Catteral (29-1, 13 KOs) is reportedly injured and unable to fight.
Catterall’s Style: Turning Off Fans
Catterll and Prograis were due to fight on August 24 at Co-Op Live in Manchester. However, some fans on social media suspected that the tickets were not selling, the fight was postponed due to the bad situation.
It would be good for the Matchroom promoter, Eddie Hearn, to cancel the Catteral-Prograis fight because it is a match that does not impress the fans, who showed no interest in watching that albatross.
Mike Coppinger hears that Catterall’s clash with Prograis will be postponed to October. We’ll see if that happens. War is a bad idea in the first place because this game is poison. Catterll would be better matched against IBF 140-lb champion Liam Paro or WBO champion Teofimo Lopez than Prograis.
Fans have not been very interested in the Catteral-Prograis fight for obvious reasons. Catterll has a safe first fighting style, similar to that of Shakur Stevenson, and his fighting is hard on the eyes. Catterall’s fights are boring to watch most of the time.
Last chance for Prograis
Prograis, 35, is coming off a twelve-round unanimous decision loss against Devin Haney last December in San Francisco. The fight is seen as the last chance for former WBA/WBO 140-lb champion Prograis (29-2, 24 KOs) to salvage his career.
It’s tough for Prograis because he’s slow and he won’t do well against the Shakur-esque Catterall, who moves a lot, darts, and stiffens whenever his opponent gets into the striking zone.
After Catterll’s last fight with Josh Taylor in May, he made Hearn’s job difficult because he was not fun to watch. If you’re a promoter of one of the top 140 fighters, you don’t want to match them with Catterall. You move a lot, and all that holds you back. It doesn’t go with the crowds.
Potential Destination
With Catteral-Prograis postponed to October, the ideal landing spot will be on the undercard of the Dmitry Bivol vs. Artur Beterbiev in Riyadh. The fight will be good on the undercard, and ticket sales won’t be a concern. I’d bury it deep in that card so it wouldn’t attract event promotion.
Hearn has 140 other players to match Catterll if he decides to end Prograis’ fight. One of these fighters could please fans as Catterer’s Plan B:

I suggest Hearn pairs Catterall with Boot Ennis or Andy Cruz to give him a real test. If he fails, he’ll have an excuse because of the talent of those two, but if he can compete, it’s a win for him.
