Uthappa praised the opening team Shubman Gill again Yashasvi Jaiswal, drawing parallels between them and the legendary pair of Ganguly and Tendulkar. Uthappa highlighted that the duo’s approach and techniques reminded him of the famous duo of yesteryear.

“I see them, when I look at them they remind me of Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar going out together, where their performances were complementary. Their tactics complemented each other, that’s what I see when I see these two go out to bat together,” said Uthappa on Sony Sports Network.

Notably, Gill and Jaiswal have shown great promise as an opening pair in international cricket. They opened together in nine innings, scoring 516 runs at an impressive average of 64.50. Their partnership has already produced two hundred stands and two century stands, indicating a bright future for Indian cricket with these young talents at the helm.

Uthappa also expressed great confidence in Jaiswal’s ability to secure his place in the ODI squad. Although he has played 22 matches in other formats, Jaiswal is yet to make his ODI debut. Uthappa believes that if Jaiswal gets his chance in ODIs, he will quickly cement his place due to his versatility and skill.

“I honestly feel if he (Jaiswal) gets that opportunity in ODI cricket, he will fill that spot quickly because after Test cricket and T20I cricket, ODI cricket will be very easy for him. Because he will feel like I have all the time in the world to score runs,” Thappa added.
