The Argentine striker is ‘happy’ at Man City
Julian Alvarez played down uncertainty over his Manchester City future after manager Pep Guardiola said the striker’s representatives could make a transfer request to director of football Txiki Begiristain this summer.
Alvarez suggested on Monday that he was unhappy with his absence from City’s most important games last season, prompting Guardiola to respond that the striker should consider the situation.
“I don’t think about filling the void [him] but I knew he said he would think about it,” added Guardiola. “And when he does it [had a] think about it, you’ll let us know.”

Julian Alvarez news: ‘I’m happy’
“I heard what Guardiola said,” the 24-year-old told TYC Sports. “I don’t have much to say about it. I never said anything bad.
“I just said I would think about it, as I always do during the season to analyze what happened last season – possible projections. I always say that I am comfortable and happy at City, which is a big club. So I didn’t say anything bad.”
Alvarez, who signed a one-year deal in March 2023 to keep him at City until 2028, helped Argentina win the 2024 Copa America this summer and reach the quarter-finals of the 2024 Summer Olympics, where they will face hosts France. in the quarter-finals on Friday (20:00 BST).

Minutes of Alvarez City
The former River Plate man was almost a regular for City in the league in 2023/24 until mid-February but started just two of his 10 Champions League games, playing a total of 33 minutes in their quarter-final against Madrid.
He was also left out of the starting line-up in the surprise FA Cup final defeat to Manchester United and the Premier League, playing 17 minutes in the last four top-flight games and scoring two goals.
“Last season, I was one of the players with the most minutes at City,” said Alvarez at the beginning, using Ole, speaking at the Olympic Games.
“In the end, you don’t like to be left out of important games. You want to contribute. I will take my time and think about what I want from myself.”
Alvarez transfer: Guardiola’s response
Responding to City’s trip to the US, Guardiola noted that Alvarez “played a lot”. “If he wants more, that’s fine,” she said. “That’s why [he should] think about it.”
City signed Alvarez for €17m (£14.1m) in January 2022 from Argentinian side River Plate, where he remains on loan, making his Cityzens debut in July 2022.
The 2021 South American Footballer of the Year produced 17 goals and five assists in 49 appearances for City in his debut campaign. In the second, Alvarez struck out 19 times and scored 13 goals.
