Young prospect Emiliano Moreno steps up against Rashield Williams in Florida

by Francisco Salazar |

Emiliano Moreno may only be 19 years old, but he doesn’t represent it in the ring. Not only is he undefeated, but he is starting to make a name for himself in the welterweight division.

Moreno will face Rashield Williams on Wednesday night at the Whitesands (also known as ProBox TV) Events Center in Plant City, Florida. The 10-round bout will precede the big fight between Alberto Palmetta and Jesus Saracho.

Both fights will be streamed live on the ProBox TV YouTube page or app (8 pm ET/ 5 pm PT).

Moreno (9-0, 5), who lives in Long Beach, California, has faced and overcome humble opposition by using an aggressive, fan-friendly style to defeat his opponents. He has also had the advantage, so far, of overpowering his opponents with his 5’11” frame, raining punches from different angles.

Chris Glover of ProBox TV believes that Moreno has a bright future, especially with his developing skills, and expects a good fight tomorrow against Williams.

“He’s very good,” Glover told The Ring on Monday evening. “The kid was in the right place (in) ‘Fight of the Year’ (in his last fight). That will be an uphill battle against Rashield Williams.”

In his last fight on February 16, Moreno defeated Axl Melendez Salgado by unanimous decision in one of the best fights of the year. In his last fight on November 15, Moreno stopped Daniel Lim late in the second round.

Both Melendez and Lim were undefeated before facing Moreno.

Melendez is managed by Ray Frye, who also manages Saracho and former junior lightweight Jonathan Javier Fierro.

Williams (11-2, 9 KOs), a native of Nassau, Bahamas and now living in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, stopped Andres Viera in the second round of his last fight on March 2. In his previous fight on November 18, Williams stopped Nestor Armas Hernandez, also in the second round.

The 34-year-old has won his last five fights, four by knockout, since a split decision loss to undefeated Elijah Flores in October 2022. Williams’ other loss as a champion was by split decision, to undefeated Javaune James. in March 2019.
