How injury concerns stopped PSG from signing Leny Yoro

Paris Saint-Germain have opted to pursue a deal for Manchester United’s new signing Leny Yoro due to concerns over the defender’s fitness, according to a report.

The 18-year-old moved to Old Trafford in mid-July after the Red Devils edged out rivals Real Madrid in the race for his signature.

Yoro impressed on his debut for his new club in pre-season, playing half in a 2-0 win over Rangers. However, he picked up a foot problem in the first leg of their tour of the United States, and had to be substituted 35 minutes into a 2-1 defeat by Arsenal.

The defender will be sidelined for around three months, while manager Erik ten Hag has also been hit by striker Rasmus Hojlund’s suspension until after the September international break.

After Yoro’s retreat, L’Equipe PSG revealed that they were aware of ‘fragile things’ and that played a role in the French giants not trying to sign him from former club Lille.

Les Parisiens have had a quiet summer transfer window so far, with their only arrival being goalkeeper Matvey Safonov. They are reported to be closing in on Benfica midfielder Joao Neves, with former prodigy Renato Sanches leaving on loan.

United have more injury concerns than Yoro’s absence. Marcus Rashford sprained his ankle during their friendly win over Real Betis and the England international was seen limping in the concussion after the game.

The Premier League giants have one game left on their US tour before returning to England. They face Liverpool on Sunday morning before taking on Manchester City in the Community Shield the following weekend.
