Carlo Ancelotti confirms when Kylian Mbappe will play for Real Madrid

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has suggested Kylian Mbappe will start against Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup next week.

Mbappe signed for Madrid on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer, joining Los Blancos at the end of a long-running back-to-back saga.

He was unveiled at the Santiago Bernabeu after the conclusion of Euro 2024 before going on holiday to rest and recover from international competition.

Speaking after Madrid’s recent 2-1 Clasico loss to rivals Barcelona in a pre-season friendly, Ancelotti revealed when the world can expect to see Mbappe start.

“It is obvious that Mbappe can be in the Super Cup starting XI. [Jude] Bellingham and others [on holiday] again. They have prepared themselves, followed the plan and they will all play,” he said.

Madrid have one game left in their three-game pre-season tour of the USA as they have already lost to Barca and AC Milan. They face Chelsea in Charlotte on Tuesday night before returning home.

Mbappe and several other Madrid stars who have reached the finals of Euro 2024 or the Copa America will instead meet at the club’s Valdebebas training ground.

European champions Madrid will travel to Warsaw in the Super Cup to face Europa League winners Atalanta on August 14, four days before they begin their La Liga campaign in Mallorca.

Mbappe’s first home game as a Madrid player could come on August 25 when they host Valladolid at the Bernabeu. A trip to Las Palmas and another home game, this time against Real Betis, will follow immediately before the first international break of the new season.
