Early promise and immediate dismissal
Following his blistering six, Mayers continued his aggressive start by smashing a boundary in the last ball of the over, giving the Jaguars a strong start. However, his promising innings was short-lived, as he was bowled for 18 off 12 in the fourth over. This brief cameo was a microcosm of Mayers’ challenging campaign in the 2024 draft, where he averaged 15.75 with a strikeout rate of less than 99 in five outings.
Surrey Jaguars are struggling with batting
Mayers’ early dismissal spelled another disappointing knock from SJG, who were bowled out for 124 overs at 19.2. Only the captain Marcus Stoinis managed to score more than 30 runs, making 39 in 23 productions. All other batsmen failed to make a significant contribution, leaving SJG with a limited score of 125 to defend.
In reply, Wolves chased down the score comfortably in the 16th over, losing only four wickets. The comprehensive victory marked the Jaguars’ third loss in four completed games, leaving them fifth in the six-team table with just three points from five games (One No Result). The Jaguars will need to win both of their remaining group stage games to have a chance at making the playoffs.
